Hey Estein--

I did not find the word "qhich" in my Webster's new world dictionary. Since you are a former professional writer with spell check, I am sure your use of this word is correct, as much as I can conjecture that you actually meant "which" or even possibly "quiche" (since this is a food website).

So please elucidate for those of us who are not professional writers-- what does the word "qhich" mean?

Thanks in advance. I will run my spell check now.

Food is great, hours stink. I keep wanting to go back, but it's nearly impossible to get there when they are open. We have tried a few times, thinking they closed at 8 (which is early anyway), getting there at 7:15 or 7:30, and then being turned away with the proprietors saying that they aren't seating any more tables for the night. Come on, I'm trying to give you business, and you are turning me away?? Also, the service was very very slow. I understand that they are making much of their food to order, but it took nearly 15 just for someone to come over with water. All that being said, the food was really REALLY good It's hard to find awesome vegan food without leaving the city, so I really hope that they take care of the other stuff so that we can continue to enjoy their awesome food!

Absolutely love this place! A little disorganized at times (we had reservations and still had to wait about 35 minutes for a table due to a "mix up") but when there are errors the management is very nice and tried to fix it. Plus, when you taste the food nothing else matters!!! This is probably some of my favorite seafood in the city, and the penne with vodka sauce is absolutely the best I have ever had.

Recently tried out Crawdaddy's- I was SUPER excited because I love New Orleans and cajun/creole is one of my favorite types of food. My husband and I went for a "date night" on the later half of the evening one Friday night. There was live music, which was really nice. It was a little loud for the space, but honestly it just reminded me of all the little places in New Orleans! We both REALLY enjoyed our food- fried green tomato appetizer, shrimp and grits, and catfish po boy, side of mac and cheese. The food was EXCELLENT and reminded me of being somewhere on Frenchman Street. Service was maybe a TAD slow, but we were just enjoying the music and ambiance so we didn't mind at all. Our waitress was VERY nice. I will be going back ASAP!

Dear fellow food writer (qhich I did for many, many years)... the amount of typos and mispells (not to be redundant) are embarrassing. Please do take the time to understand, that whether or not one writes for or against an establishment that it is required to be accurate. I am sorry you had this experience, and I have not visited this restaurant, but simply take the time to at least spell check. I have known you to be kind. I have read other comments. I know you know better. So...spring rolls (not roles) - fragmented sentences can be fine at times, but desserts are not the same as your "deserts" - and yes, I am being a bit picky. You may feel free to delete this post, as I mean you no harm, but in effort to improve your grammar, punctuation and structure, this is only a comment, not an indictment on you. On the other hand, I have found that if an establishment is not up to par, particularly a new restaurant, do them the favor, share your thoughts and then give them time to correct. In my years, I have found this to be the best line of action to follow and hope you will do the same. Peace, out.

Was so looking forward to a night out with friends trying this new spot. I want to love and support all midtown spots, but this one made it pretty tough. Let's set the scene- before even ordering, we couldn't help but notice that all too familiar "chirp" of a smoke detector with low batteries. After about half an hour, I was ready to offer to climb up on a ladder myself and change the batteries for them.

We ordered the soup of the day, "shrimp and garlic". Sounds delicious, right? We passed by a couple appetizers that caught our eye because with the soup it would be too much. Our server came downstairs with three black bean soups and an "ooops, I was wrong". Sorry, none of us wanted black bean, but we were told our meals were nearly finished and so we didn't replace the soup with the appetizers that caught our eye (nor were we asked). We watched tables around us get delicious looking food as we waited... And waited and waited. In the end it was over and hour from the time we ordered to the time our meals arrived. At one point, we were ready to go over to Vietnamese Garden and grab some spring roles.

I understand glitches, but don't lie to us and tell us it is coming in one minute when you mean one hour. The food was tasty when it arrived. I had the broiled Tilapia with steamed string beans and roasted red potatoes (a meal I could have easily made at home in 20 minutes). I was hoping there would be some sort of Cajun/ creole spice, but it was pretty basic. Our server offered us complimentary deserts, which was an effort. The sweet potato pie was tasty and I never would have ordered it.

Personally, I like to go out to eat for the ambience, the service and the experience. Most things I can cook on my own, so it isn't always about the food. I couldnt believe as I returned from the ladies room that a server with dirty dishes wouldn't step aside to allow me to pass. In fact, she practically ran right into me. I got the overall impression that the servers are not actually trained servers. Even with simple things like clearing plates. Ours brought the deserts and our dirty dinner dishes had been sitting in front of us for quite some time (until I stacked them off to the side).

I want to give it a second chance because it is a midtown business, but I must admit- it was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in recent years. And yes, the smoke detector chirped the entire time!

I love the Midtown Scholar, but, IMHO, the cafe is usually just ok...every time I've been there, the service was unforgivably slow (considering that I was the only person in line!). There are times that the people behind the counter seem to be more interested in each other than the customers. Or maybe it is just some of the customers. For example, it seems that the older I get, the less visible I am to "supercool" waitstaff who happen to be fortunate enough to be working in a supercool place...maybe they are confused about who and what actually is supercool? Maybe they haven't realized that a certain percentage of the customers visiting a bookstore that specializes in old, out of print texts will inevitably be "of a certain age"? My experience today was the worst...4 or 5 workers hanging around behind the counter couldn't be bothered to notice me for several minutes, and then couldn't remember a simple 2 item order. Usually don't write these kinds of things, but today was the tipping point. Don't get me wrong, I'll go back--love the location, the books, the cafe section is beautiful and the coffee is quite good. I just dislike being ignored by people who are taking my money. Oh yeah, not all THAT old, anyway...
